Iceland
March 19, 2013
Iceland, where almost all the place names are unpronounceable. The Golden Triangle is the classic tourist loop in southwestern Iceland, taking in the waterfall of Gullfoss, the geyser of Strokkur, and the mid-atlantic rift at Þingvellir. Tack on some driving around the fishing villages and geothermal vents of the Reykjanes Peninsula and a trip out to Sólheimajökull Glacier for some ice climbing and you've got a pretty good trip. The real hope was to see some northern lights, hence going in the spring when it still gets dark enough at night, but space weather just wasn't cooperating this time.
